CAMP ACTIVITIES
Fun … Safety …
& - most of all! THE HORSE is what camp is all
about.
Your child will enjoy five days of summertime activities
centered around horses & ponies.
At
Pickwick Stables, we constantly teach & stress the
elements of safety in working around & riding horses…
your child will learn responsible & fun horsemanship
skills in a great countryside environment.
Each child is assigned a pony or horse for the entire
week. This helps a bond to be formed that makes learning
& working together a joy. Grooming & tacking-up your
pony is just as important as riding. Learning these &
many other skills teaches responsibility to children &
helps them understand their horse or pony’s needs & its
special personality.
Riding
Every child rides every day! That’s what the Pickwick
Stables Summer 2008 Horsemanship Youth Camp is all
about! Your child will be given the best instruction by
Pickwick’s experienced & capable staff members. Pickwick
camp counselors are all excellent riders & teachers with
extensive horse industry experience & experience working
with children.
Remember: at Pickwick Stables we
continually teach & stress SAFETY
Camp Programs
Pickwick
Stables is a competitive show barn as well as a top
quality instructional facility. This combination results
in focused & intelligent camp programs. We always teach
care & respect for our horses & ponies even after the
riding is over because our horses & ponies are
experienced, responsible lesson & show horses who are at
our facility all year long.
We know each horse & pony: we deal with them every day.
They are not strangers who are brought in just for
summer camp.
Activities
In addition to riding and horsemanship throughout the
day include Arts & Crafts, Games, Movies & Hiking - all
with an equestrian theme - of course! At the end of each
week, campers will have a Journal/Scrapbook filled with
facts, reminders & mementos of their great week!

A DAY AT CAMP
On the first day
of each session, staffers & campers gather in
Pickwick’s comfortable lounge where they meet each
other, discuss the coming week’s activities, & learn
about different camp expectations.
Every morning brings barn chores!
Campers are assigned one of the chores-such as putting
hay in the stalls or grain in the feed tubs-according to
their age & ability. The rest of the morning is spent
preparing to ride. Campers have a
daily lesson on their assigned horse or pony.
Mid-day is
lunch time and a time to take a relaxing break. After
lunch there is a lecture based on the day’s theme.
Topics covered include breeds of horses, horse
confirmation, grooming, & tack care. After lecture, it’s
back to the barn to apply the information or skills
discussed.
Mid-afternoon,
when it is normally the hottest, is the time for
all-camp activities, contests, games or projects. The
day is finished off with barn chores & a final farewell
to the Pickwick horses & ponies.
Friday...the
last day of each session & time for campers to show off
everything they have learned. Parents are especially
invited to come out & cheer on their children at the
Exhibition Mini Horse Show.
